The ML100 series of miniature photoelectric sensors raises the bar on performance with a light spot that is optimized for easier alignment and more consistent detection. It also has the greatest optical power and longest sensing distances in its class, up to 30 meters (98 feet), which is 50% greater than most competitive models.
Its unique LED technology, called PowerBeam™, means not only can it sense objects much farther than competitive housings with its footprint, but also with increased optical signal strength for improved resistance to dust or contaminants on the lens.
The new light spot is a significant differentiator not just because it is more powerful, but also because of its sharply defined shape and lack of a central sensing void, or the black circle common to some conventional sensor light spots. This sharp and consistent light spot ensures that a target is detected reliably over the entire beam pattern.
Enhanced status indication actively details for the user what the photoelectric sensor is doing at any given moment. And because the status LEDs are highly visible from 360°, users can quickly ascertain the sensor´s status.
The ML100 series sensors provide an industry-standard mounting pattern, but are far more durable than a typical sensor with the same mounting style. Where most competitive models have plastic threaded holes that are extremely susceptible to damage during mounting due to excessively applied torque, the ML100 series feature metal bushings for exceptional durability.
The ML100 series is cULus listed. The ML100 series boasts what is among the lowest current consumption in its class; many competitive models have a current consumption rating that is 25-50% higher than the ML100. Lower current consumption directly translates into energy savings, and also cuts costs because fewer power supplies can support a larger number of sensors.
The ML100 provides automatic crosstalk protection, meaning that two ML100 sensors can be used together without any mounting restrictions. They are also highly immune to ambient light, even in environments using high frequency energy-saving fluorescent lights. Additionally, a broader temperature rating (-30 °C to 60 °C; -22 °F to 140 °F) means the ML100 provides more reliable operation in both lower temperature and higher temperature environments, including cold storage areas, compared with competitive options.

ML100 diffuse mode offers the longest sensing distance of any diffuse mode sensor in its class. Diffuse mode allows using a single sensor housing with no reflector required. Diffuse mode models are ideal for long-range detection of similar objects when a reflector or thru-beam mounting is not possible or desired. ML100 diffuse mode sensors can be considered when detecting objects with no background, such as over the top of a conveyor sidewall.

ML100 diffuse mode with divergent beam is a type of diffuse mode which has a very wide beam pattern or light spot. The divergent beam sensor light spot is over six times as large as that of the standard diffuse mode.
Divergent beam photoelectric sensors are well suited for detecting small, glossy, or irregular objects, from wires and yarns to tissue packing or shiny foil pouches. Additionally, divergent beam sensors do not need a reflector to operate, making them a suitable alternative to retroreflective sensors, especially when detecting clear or transparent objects.

ML100 diffuse mode with background suppression models offer the benefits of diffuse mode sensing without the drawbacks. Diffuse mode sensing means that no reflector is required and only one sensor housing is required, as opposed to a thru-beam configuration that requires a transmitter housing and receiver housing. But unlike standard diffuse mode sensing, background suppression precisely detects objects only to a user-defined distance and ignores objects beyond the cut-off.
Also, ML100 background suppression models have very low sensitivity to object color. Background suppression models of ML100 are ideal for ignoring background objects such as conveyor sidewalls and machine panels and detecting objects such as printed media or totes on a conveyor with varying colors without re-adjusting the sensor´s sensitivity.

ML100 diffuse mode with background evaluation is based on the triangulation principle. The receiver consists of a near element and far element allowing it to clearly distinguish between the background and an object in the detection area.
ML100 background evaluation sensors work like a retroreflective sensor, but without the need for a reflector. It does so by utilizing a fixed background (e.g. conveyor, machine part) as a reference to reliably detect objects regardless of color, texture or shape.

ML100 retroreflective sensors provide longer sensing ranges, over five times greater than those of diffuse mode models, without the requirement of using two sensor housings such as a thru-beam configuration. As all ML100 retroreflective models have integral polarization filters, they correctly detect even glossy objects such as shrink-wrapped packages or foil. ML100 retroreflective models are ideal for applications such as a trigger to start or stop a conveyor.

ML100 thru-beam sensors are used when the highest optical strength or the longest sensing distances are required. Thru-beam sensing involves two housings: a transmitter and a receiver.
ML100 thru-beam models are ideal for long-range sensing, such as detection of engine blocks in an automotive environment, or for dirty or dusty environments when higher optical strength is needed.
